Split rent with roommates — evenly, by income, or by room size. Free, no sign-up.
Each roommate pays
Everyone pays the same. Switch modes above to weight by income or room size.
Rent is monthly. So are the IOUs.
This calculator settles the shares. The Divvy app keeps a running tab of rent, utilities, and groceries with your roommates — and nudges everyone until you're actually paid back.
There are three fair methods: split it evenly (simplest, works when rooms are similar), split it by income (each person pays the same share of their earnings), or split it by room size (bigger room, bigger share). Pick the method above and this calculator does the math.
Add each roommate's monthly income, then divide the rent in the same proportion. If you earn $4,000 and your roommate earns $2,000, you pay two-thirds of the rent and they pay one-third. Switch to "By income" above — the calculator applies each person's percentage automatically.
Measure each bedroom (or estimate its share of the apartment), then divide rent in proportion to the space each person gets. A 150 sq ft room in a home with 300 sq ft of bedrooms pays half of the bedroom share. Use "By room size" above and enter each room's square footage.
Most roommates split utilities evenly even when rent is split unevenly — everyone uses the wifi and hot water roughly the same. Recurring bills like these are exactly what the Divvy app tracks month to month, so nobody has to redo the math or chase payments.
Agreeing on the split is half the job — collecting is the other half. Divvy keeps a running balance per roommate and sends the request through Venmo or Cash App in one tap, then reminds them until it's settled.
